This was my FAVORITE handmade book yet! i just loooove this fabric (seen here). I yanked it from a vintage blazer and im so happy i still have a ton left because the day i finished this litte baby, i took it with me to a coffee shop and a friend bought it from me right there! It was made with really epic drawing paper (which brand has slipped my mind) but its great for pens/pencil/markers/collage/photographs. I also stuck a vintage photocard in the front and some beautiful gold thin decorative paper for the most pleasant opening experience. I also attached a pretty new bookmark made of rose burlap. Doesnt it look like the best place to put your ideas and doodles?!?!






I feel like such a proud mother after I finish these things. They take all day and by the end I have glue all over my arms and pieces of fabric in my hair and the biggest mess ever on my table/floor but it feels so good to hold the little gems and know someone will fill them with life!!!! I've just recently turned my attention back to my books because its what I love love love to do and Im planning a GIANT reopening of the book shop with a large number of journals in the future. I also have a ginormous FALL clothing shoot coming soon with about 20+ girls ive never met and a hair/make up stylist. EXCITED. <3

my exit exam..

my first step towards the weary end of school happened like 2 weeks ago but i finally have time to post about it! this was my final review board! basically, my school doesn't use a grading system, instead.. at the end of the semester each student has a review board where they pile all of the semester work in one room and have a final critique by teachers and students.. you either receive full credit, or ya dont. i only took two studio classes this semester/// large format and book bindin!

review boards have always been hard on me because my work isn't consistently conceptual. especially my photo work. though, this semester i had a pretty good board. they told me to continue with the flower letter work and with the mosaic plates.. which was interesting. anyway, here are some photos!

I spent today in the Boston public library writting a 5 page that im nearly done with.. so that is good news. im listening to mammoth moon and its amazing. cant wait to hear the new record!

handmade with lav and lace

there was a givaway on moorea-seal's blog a while back and the lovely Rita from Curioser won the book and BLOGGED IT! love the photos, girl! hope the book holds all your secrets! or just looks cute on a shelf! haha.



and, like i was telling Rita...

i have been binding books for a new shop that I will open in May called Handmade With Lavender and Lace! i want you all to know about it and look forward to it with me. As an artist, and a lover of books.. Its REALLY important to me to have a beautiful place to write and draw inspiration in. Especially if its hand bound, i feel like its such a little treasure. I hope you guys are as interested in journals and artist books.. im also hoping it will also turn into a collaborative project because i can really use ANYTHING as material for binding and if you girls want specialized books made from fabrics you cherish or pages you love WE CAN WORK TOGETHER! anyway, i only have a few photographed but i've got about 20 made and im hoping to double that before opening the shop. here are some little beauties.

Onto a busy friday!

I made two new books this week, my first one being my newest pride and joy! made from the same fabric that this dress is made of! its filled with lovely vellum paper like in my other sketchbook so that the pages are transparent and the ideas and words are seen all through out the book! I bound this book using a newer stitch i learned called COPTIC binding. this version was pretttty difficult but i really loved the outcome. i love that the book lays flat in every direction and it just feels really sturdy and awesome! what do you guys think? would you be interested in owning something like this?

next, I made up a portfolio binder to house my soft cover books and paper scraps from bindings. This is basically book board, fabric, paper, glue, ribbon, and floral happiness. I also threw in a little image transfer in there of lavender on the inside wass on the book.


okay guys, gotta get some sleep... tomorrow im working all day at school trying to get more books done and hopefully getting back FOUR large format negatives to SHARE and print. Ive got this idea of only shooting portraits and involving floral patterns in my large format work.. I hope these turn out!

NEW BOOKY

Hey buddy babies!

Ive been really busy slaving over at the goodwill store to make up for all of the money I WASNT making when i went home for 2 weeks! my feet are ache'n and my hands are dirty and SCHOOL STARTS THIS WEEK!

my last semester! Really excited and scared but mostly happy to get it OVER WITH. bleh!

ok! so to prep you for the new booky i made last night. I wanted a place to put some of my old business cards that had wrong information on them! I am a FIRM moo.com customer who loves loves loves moo products. and although i have started printing my own business cards, id recommend these to anyone for anything ever. Moo can print different images on each card, making your card stash a little portfolio! i love them. HERE is a book i made to show some of them off! it is completely made of found/thrifted materials besides the business cards! oh, and sorry for the photobooth pics.. i dont own a digital cam!




yayyy. im planning on focusing a bunch on my own book making after school is over. I promise to do many many 'how to's' and 'make your own's' when it comes time! stick around okay!

my newest book!

I've been printing my own photo books this semester. well they are more like photo journals. here are my first versions. ive reprinted and resewn them all without text and made a new autumnish one starting with the cover.

at school.

Tonight, Sarah Cohen and Aaron Brown and I are doing an overnight at school. We are working in the glass department. Aaron is working on cutting little bits of glass to collage onto to and make into necklaces. I am cutting glass to press flowers into and make into window ornaments as Christmas presents.

ANYWAY, I wanted to let you INTO my newest books. Hot off the press!





Im goign to reprint/sew the books together without the text, then make boxes for each season. Hopefully this will be an ongoing project and turn into little books to sell.

SORRY FOR THE LACK OF POSTS! Right now, Im working on TWO papers for school due next week.. but after then i will be the internet's lady once again!

horray! making books is so therapeutic. especially i'll probably never fill half of them, i really focus on each's creation. there are a few more but im feeling book over loaded right now.

its a medium format camera and it shoots 120 film.


so i spent all of the money i had on this so go shopping in my etsy please! or tell your friends or something!

i made these today in my 9 hour class. there are a few more but these are the sturdiest.

so im really excited about this class and incorporating found papers and objects in the books. today i didnt bring anything so i had to get corny papers from the school store. but thats okay.

ryan is making sausage peppas and onions for dinner. im supposed to pick out a movie but i cant get up from my smooshed in the couch position. he is yelling at me to get up. haha

UM. in other news, I LOVE FROZEN YOGURT and thats tomorrow there is a giant ice cream festival.
